Kind of a smaller place and was packed with a longer wait, but it was worth it. The atmosphere was great (besides a bit of the smokeyness from the pub), and the food was terrific.

This is the place for a great steak in Beaver Dam! Make a reservation though or there will be a wait. If your looking for a meal with great taste and value, I highly recommend the ribeye for two. The salad is fresh and the drinks are wonderful (try the old fashioned!) The only thing is it is a bit loud if you are hard of hearing and parking is sparce. All in all a great meal for a great value our last bill for the ribeye and 2 drinks $39.00-priceless!!

My husband and I decided to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary at the Char Haus tonight. We have been here a few times before. The steaks are always tender juicy and tasty and cooked to perfection. Tonight when I asked the waitress what kind of soup they have (which comes with your dinner selection) she stated that the chef had made for the first time creamy bacon squash soup. That sounded interesting and I was hopeful would be great. I was delighted! It was creamy squash goodness and had a dollop of whip cream on top which I was unsure of until I tasted it. It added just the right amount of sweetness to compliment the creamy squash. I loved it so much I ordered a bowl to go. My husband had a porterhouse with side of hashbrowns $23 cooked perfectly. I had a pub strip with side of wild rice $23 and it was juicy deliciousness. We each had a tap beer, creamy dark and octoberfest $3.50 each. They have a very nice selection of beers on tap here. The service here is always spot on. Staff is courteous, friendly and attentive. Your food arrives quickly, piping hot and wonderful. I can not say enough great things about the Char Haus!

We got here what I'd consider late, 7:15 on Saturday night and it was packed. We had drinks at the bar and the bartenders were very nice. Our server was very quick and attentive. The relish tray was really good old time stuff, potato salad, pate, cheese spread , really good! Our steaks were good and we are definitely coming back even though it's an hour and half away.

Great food, atmosphere and service...and most importantly they know how to make a true Wisconsin Old Fashion! I had the oscar mahi mahi and it was absolutely delicious! We will be back!!

With menu items like prime rib and roasted duck, I had high hopes. However, the execution of the entrees isn't up to par with what you'd expect for these kinds of dishes (or prices). I've had steak, duck, and even burgers here. All were dry and flavorless. I want to be able to say the seating is intimate, but cramped is a better word. Average-sized people shouldn't have to worry about bumping chairs with the next table.

For me it was worth the drive for prime rib. It was fall apart, barely needing a knife to cut with good flavor. The queen cut was more than enough and could have been confused with a king cut at other places. Helpful waitstaff and the use of iPads or notebooks for taking orders was not only handy but practical also. I would go again for prime rib, but would like to try other entrees next time also.

I feel bad leaving this review as I heard many good things about this place. I went with my brother to try it and I'm thinking if the owner reads this, this might help him correct my experience. We went in on a Tuesday night as we were in Fox Lake area helping get the lake cottage ready for the season. I was going to order Walleye or Shrimp and the waitress talked me into Ribeye medium rare. I went with the Ribeye and it came medium to medium well, which is ok, and I could still taste a great steak that I've heard so much about. It came on a metal rectangular plate and it looked like a Ponderosa Steak as it had the criss cross burn marks. Sadly it tasted just like a Ponderosa steak -- literally same exact flavor and thin-ness of a Ponderosa steak, as it was full of grizzle, crunchy un-eatable areas, - I threw half out. The Baked Potato was small, but good. My brothers Beef with corn and potatoes he said was good. I did love the atmosphere and I may try it again, but I was super disappointed in the Ribeye it just wasn't anywhere near what I've heard about this place. If I come back, I'll get the Prime Rib or Seafood next time and tell them about my experience as maybe I just had a really bad cut of meat that day......

Always good food. Sat. Nights are packed so make sure you have a reservation. Tonight our party had prime rib (special every night and always tasty) blackNblu rib eye which was reported by my chef brother to be very good and another fav...broasted chicken. This is an old tyme supper club theme with a basket of crackers and soft cheese on the table. A small relish tray and rolls are served with your soup or salad. The relish tray varies with bread and butter pickles, shrimp cocktail, liver spread, 3 bean salad, picked beets etc. I have taken out desserts before as I usually have a dogie bag from dinner and no room for dessert. Drinks are good too with many special drinks including flavored Martinis. Not a place for vegans. The best a vegetarian can do is soup and salads.

My third time here. I travel a lot for work and eat at a lot of expensive steak houses. The ribeye is as good as any i've had... World wide.

Great fish fry place. We stopped there on a Friday on our way up north and this restaurant was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted an authentic small town pub with great tasting fish. We live in Madison and there's a couple decent spots, same with my fiancée's hometown up north, but nothing that rang the bell for me. The outside is just a basic shack looking house and the neighborhood seems very industrial but the inside of the place is modernized with clean/new looking tables and a nice big wrap around bar. They also have a back room with extended seating and new flatscreen TVs in good locations. The staff was polite and we only had to wait about ten minutes which is pretty good for a Friday night in Wisconsin. The food is fantastic for pub fare. We had fresh dinner rolls with butter brought out promptly by a courteous waitress who engaged us in conversation and I had homemade baked beans which were probably the best I've had. They tasted like pulled pork and gave the beans a nice gritty taste with just the right amount of brown sugar. As for the main course I had the 4-piece haddock with baked potato and my fiancée had the perch with fries. Both were mouth watering good. The haddock was moist and reminded me of good ribs the way it gently came apart. My fiancee's perch was more "strip-like" but equally tasty. I think the best part though was the giant container of homemade Tartar sauce on the table. I'm not a huge fan of it but I usually indulge when fish fryin, but this stuff was delicious. If you get fish make sure to lather it on. Beer selection was decent too, they had 7-8 on tap including one of my faves - Goose Island 312. Service was a tad on the unresponsive side but I can't take away a star yet since we've only been the one time and it could vary. Its also a laid back place so I don't expect a lot and as mentioned our waitress was nice. Highly recommend if you want some classic fish fry in Wisconsin

This is one of the better restaurants in Beaver Dam. The vibe is sort of old school Wisconsin supper club with a focus on steaks and a few seafood options. Of course they have a Friday fish fry (not fried options too) which is usually what I go for. The few times I've had a steak they were fine, but not amazing (although I'm not a steak connisseur). Be warned, it can get busy on Friday nights and a bit crowded in the entry way where everyone who can't fit at the bar is standing waiting for their table. The bar offers pretty much any cocktail you would like, including blended drinks, and they make a pretty good old fashioned. The draft beer selection is a bit on the smaller side (maybe 6 or 7 different options) and typically includes a German import and a few US craft/microbrew offerings.

Love the Char Haus prime rib and steaks! The fish has got to be the best in town, and the staff is friendly and lots of fun.
